ARTIST
STATEMENT
Being
a mixed-media artist, I primarily use found objects and discarded treasures as
materials in the creation of my work. I incorporate patinas and paint, while
welcoming the element of surprise to coax seemingly unrelated objects into
harmony. Exploring themes of beauty, paradox, humor, and truth, I am satisfied
when I am convinced that all materials have fully integrated to realize my
vision. The Dada and Surrealist art movement of the 1920’s has been my
greatest influence, with their concept of “ready-made” art and their admiration for the
anti-intellectual and non-conformist. The artist embraces “hidden sources of
inspiration in the dream, the unconscious, and myth, irrational modes of
thought, and primitive cultures”. In these ways, I remain inspired throughout the
process of creating art that helps to create itself.
